New Ecommerce Play (Experiment)

I have a new ecommerce shop, WiredShops WED2C.

The reasons for this are discussed later in this post, however, I want to say this was so easy and cost nothing, that I think it is a good way to experiment with drop shipping if you are interested in setting up an ecommerce shop.

Things you will need:

  • If you do not already have an account with CJDropShipping, you will need to register/setup an account.
  • Setup a free WED2C site. Clicking on WED2C on the CJDropShipping Store Authorization menu, shown on the right, will provide the steps.

Once you have everything registered, your CJDropShipping WED2C store screen should resemble the top illustration in the image below.

Why I set up the new store. I am one of those people, that finds ten more things to do after coming up with a new idea.

In this case, my original idea was to offer customized Microsoft templates, e.g., MS Publisher check templates (discussed here), via my ecommerce shop, WiredShops.

A number of issues presented themselves..

  • I want to provide the custom templates via flash drives which are shipped (no downloads) -- with the explanation, for some reason those with access sometimes feel my hard work is their hard work.
  • Legal documents need to be agreed to.
  • Creating the templates (easy part).
  • Changing how my ecommerce site is sourced.

WiredShops is mostly sourced through CJDropShipping.

Most of the shop's inventory is dropped shipped, however, I do stock some of the inventory. It is easy to add the digital offerings (flash drives with the customized templates) in the same manner as the inventory I maintain.

Where to purchase the flash drives in bulk? Still researching, however, CJDropShipping offers a good deal on lower storage space drives and will etch my logo on each drive. Still waiting to see my options on the customization of the drives.

So while I was researching this on CJDropShipping I noticed I could sign up for a free ecommerce shop with WED2C- WiredShops WED2C.

Other reasons as to why I did this when I already have WiredShops. It was an easy experiment to set up. In addition, the time required to maintain the private domain (http://wired-pages.com) using the CJDropShipping API Store Authorization resource is quite a lot. I am always looking to make more efficient use of my time.

That said, I love owning WiredShops and have no plans to take it down. I may change how some of the products are sourced.

Fruit Tarte w/Cream Cheese

On Sunday, October 15, 2023 I wanted to work on two projects:

  • Video record the making of one of my favorite quick desserts, a fruit tarte w/cream cheese
  • Work on a legal document- End User License Agreement (EULA) I am putting together to allow for sales of Microsoft Product Templates I want to offer.

I was able to make and record the creation of my dessert, however I am still researching and trying to perfect the EULA document.

Today, I spent almost the entire day, editing the video for the Fruit Tarte. Yes, I have discussed this dessert in the past, however, never made a video.

Items discussed in this post or the related video...

Content Creators, Researching the Numbers

I have added a new category to this blog, WiredCreators. Posts to the category will provide statistical updates in the form of subscribers to the channel and annual revenue numbers for the Youtube channel being researched.

In addition, new content creators will be added to the growing list, so that I might continue my research for the WiredCreators.com project.

Learn more about the WiredCreators business plan and project in this earlier discussion.

Checks & Balances

Because of a banking irregularity when I opened my first business checking account (Oct. 2004), I use the many resources banks and services like Intuit offer to ensure these institutions see my banking activity in real time- across the board.

Some of the online banking resources I use, include:

  • Bank of America (personal checking & savings accounts) allows aggregators to access all of my linked accounts providing current account balances and transaction activity for each account.
  • Intuit's Mint also uses aggregators to access each linked account which provides the linked account balances and transactions.
  • In total, I have 5 different banks for checking and savings accounts. Only one is used for business banking. All of these banks are linked so that I can easily transfer funds to open a new CD or an existing account.
  • I also have credit cards with Chase, Amazon (store card, Synchrony), and CitiBank and link my personal and business checking accounts to the banks that provide the cards- for easy online payments.

I love online banking, and have convinced those who I help to manage their assets, that it is the way to go. That said, my influence insofar as others and their finances- does not extend to services like Intuit's Mint. In general they seem to feel their financial data is not Mint's business.

In my case, I have to worry about the business side of finance as well as my personal finance, however because I am a sole proprietor prefer to maintain tax related finances under the same category (I do not use a business EIN).

That said, I do maintain separate checking and savings (Wells Fargo) accounts for my business finances. All of my other bank accounts are with other banks and are all personal accounts.

I am a good record keeper, in that I like all accounts accurate at all times. I spend about 20 minutes daily checking and updating, online accounts, Excel spreadsheets and two Microsoft Money files. In total, I have 17 bank accounts and manage well over thirty.

So how do I keep up with financial accounting activities? Online banking, Mint, Excel and two versions of an old software package called Microsoft Money. If even a penny is missing, I have to reconcile the books.

The first illustration below, provides payments made to several of my interest bearing accounts for September 2023 as reported by Microsoft Money, Bank of America, and Mint. In total, I had $212.44 deposited as interest payments to various accounts. Each reporting instrument agrees with this total.

The second illustration, shows the 'to date' interest payments made to my accounts for the month of October 2023. I am expecting an additional $42 (or so) in interest payments for the month of October.

I like knowing my financial well being is known by all. I do not mind the transparency. I never really understood what happened with my first business checking account, however I did contact the legal authorities on the issue.

Banana Nut Bread

Last week, I noticed the fruit basket had too many over ripened bananas so I decided to make banana nut bread. I researched online and found this highly rated buttermilk recipe- My Country Table's "Perfect Banana Nut Bread".

I needed chopped walnuts and was a little surprised by the cost for a half cup (2 oz) bag offered by the Fisher brand. I did purchase the nuts and from Safeway the other 9 oz bag shown- for about the same price ($3.+).

I continue to experiment with my own video content creation, so yesterday I decided to film while making the banana nut loaves. See the last post for video creators who are better equipped.

Below, I am showing the finished product and my filming setup. I am having issues with audio and space. Think not using the mic will help, not sure what to do about the space issues.

I used the following recipe to glaze the loaves.
Simple Almond Icing

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • couple drops of pure almond extract
  • 1 cup powered sugar

In a small saucepan on medium heat, dissolve the sugar in water. Add flavorings. Pour small amounts of the syrup over powered sugar to achieve the desired consistency.

Also noted in the video, because I used a mini loaf pan, I baked at 350° for just under 30 minutes.

Items I use in the kitchen.

Do you want to know why I use my Canon VIXIA HF R700 video cam and not the Canon EOS M50 to film content? The video cam is lighter and none of my tripods are really sturdy enough to handle the Canon EOS M50. Yes, the resolution with the Canon EOS M50 is better.

Been Busy- This Is Only A Summary

Lately, it seems I have been working one project or another. Quite a few of the issues involved updates to existing software or applications, like the recent changes to programs to handle my Amazon affiliate links.

In addition, with all of the research related to content creators I have also noticed some interesting ideas I thought I would look into.

I like business, so I tend to checkout what other small businesses are doing in as far as income streams or side hustles.

One area I thought interesting, Youtubers discussing their in-depth financial situations and offering their Microsoft Excel templates via Etsy shops to help maintain budgets. Some of these Youtubers appear to be doing very well in this area.

Years ago, when I wanted to cut more operating costs, I decided I would no longer order bank checks which I seldom used. Instead, I created Microsoft Publisher bank check templates for both my business and personal checking accounts. I discuss this in this July 2016 blog post.

After I began using Microsoft 365 I converted the templates to the later Publisher version (discussed here), so I now have templates in Microsoft Publisher 2000 & 365.

Earlier today, I created a more generic Publisher bank check template and automated the update of the check numbers. The versions I use, require manual update of the check numbers, however as I have already indicated, I seldom write checks.

I will discuss this project later in more detail- after I finish with the video.

Yesterday, after lunch, I worked on perfecting my banana split.

Also watching videos from these creators...

I have more projects and videos coming up....
